Mentorship

We Empower IENs through Mentorship!

At our organization, we recognize the importance of mentorship in nurturing the potential of IENs and fostering a culture of continuous growth and development within our community.

The NSIENN Mentorship Program “Nurturing Success” focuses on knowledge exchange, capacity building, role modelling, emotional support, and professional development.

Our formal and informal mentorship initiatives aim to provide guidance, support, and knowledge to help these nurses develop their nursing skills, confidence, and knowledge base while fostering a sense of belonging in your new environment.

Knowledge and Skill Development

Our experienced mentors work closely with IENs, providing them with invaluable insights into the Canadian healthcare system, policies, and procedures. Mentors help mentees enhance their clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and evidence-based practice through formal sessions and informal interactions. By sharing their expertise and connecting IENs with resources, our mentors help IENs become more competent and confident in their nursing practice.

Coaching and Emotional Support and Resilience Building

Nursing practice can be emotionally demanding; our mentors strive to provide a safe space for mentees to share their concerns, fears, and challenges. Mentors offer guidance on stress management, coping strategies, self-care, and mental health through one-on-one interactions and group discussions.

Capacity Building and Role Modelling

Our mentors serve as role models, embodying the values and ethical standards of the nursing profession. Through their actions, they exemplify professionalism, effective communication, and compassion. Role modelling enables mentees to learn from their mentors’ experiences, equipping them with the tools to navigate the Nova Scotia healthcare system and develop their own professional identity.

Career Development

Our mentors help mentees set clear professional goals and create personalized career plans. By offering insights into various nursing specialties, advanced practice options, and educational opportunities, mentors empower IENs to make informed decisions about their career paths.

Professional Networking

Through our mentorship programs, IENs become part of a thriving professional community and network. Our mentors actively encourage mentees to participate in research projects, quality improvement initiatives, and professional presentations, providing opportunities for further career growth and advancement.
